BBC radio stations to unite for mass singalong

The BBC announces plans for a simulcast 'singalong' broadcast across five of its radio stations on Thursday morning.

Five BBC radio stations will join together for a simulcasted singalong on Thursday morning at 9am in an effort to lift the nation's spirits amid the coronavirus lockdown.

Each of the five stations will contribute one song to the singalong, with Greg James representing Radio 1, Dermot O'Leary for Radio 2, Lauren Laverne for 6 Music, Dotty for 1Xtra and Harpz Kaur for Asian Network.

"Nothing brings people together quite like radio does," said breakfast show host James. "It's been a great comfort for me to have a focus during this extraordinary time. I'm so glad the listeners find what we're currently doing a useful distraction as well. I can't wait to annoy all the 6 Music listeners with my choice."

O'Leary - currently covering for Zoe Ball - added: "Warm up your vocal chords everyone - and get ready to join me, Greg, Lauren, Dotty and Harpz for a sing song on Thursday at 9am. And don't forget to send me your brilliant suggestions for uplifting songs that Radio 2 can bring to the table!"

The broadcast can be listened to by tuning into any of the five stations or the BBC Sounds app.
