Cuban singer Margarita Pracatan dies, aged 89

Popular Cuban entertainer Margarita Pracatan dies of heart failure at the age of 89.

Cuban singer Margarita Pracatan, who found fame working with Clive James in the 1990s, has died at the age of 89.

The flamboyant performer regularly closed James's show Saturday Night Clive with exaggerated Hispanic versions of popular songs and also became a gay icon, becoming a regular on the Pride circuit.

Pracatan posted a video to her Twitter account on June 12 in which she appeared healthy and encouraged her followers to "be happy", one day after celebrating her 89th birthday with a party for close friends and family.

Speaking to Sky News, Pracatan's daughter Maria Gorshin confirmed that she passed away in her adopted hometown of New York on Tuesday due to heart failure.

Pracatan's death comes seven months after James died following a long battle with cancer.
