American Idol renewed for 19th season

ABC confirm that American Idol has been picked up for its 19th season, to air in 2021.

American Idol has been officially renewed for its 19th season, to air in 2021.

The singing contest ran for 15 seasons on FOX before being axed, but was revived by ABC in 2018 with original host Ryan Seacrest and a judging panel comprising Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.

The current season has been adapted to deal with the coronavirus pandemic, with the finalists, host and judges all appearing from their respective homes.

The live finale is scheduled to air this Sunday and in advance of the episode, ABC has confirmed that the show will be back next season.
