Black Panther director Ryan Coogler is developing a Wakanda-set spinoff series for Disney+.

Black Panther director Ryan Coogler has signed a five-year deal to produce shows for Disney+, starting with a new series set in Wakanda.

A sequel to the Marvel movie is due to be filmed later this year, despite the shock death of lead star Chadwick Boseman to cancer last summer, with Coogler once again overseeing the project.

According to Deadline, the director is also working on a Panther spinoff series for Disney+, which becomes the 12th known Marvel spinoff heading for the streaming service.

"It's an honour to be partnering with The Walt Disney Company," said Coogler, who will develop the shows through his Proximity Media production company. "Working with them on Black Panther was a dream come true.

"We look forward to learning, growing, and building a relationship with audiences all over the world through the Disney platforms.

"We're already in the mix on some projects that we can't wait to share."

Black Panther 2 has a release date of July 8, 2022, with the Disney+ series not expected to be released until after the film.
