Kevin Feige: 'Black Panther 2 will focus on world of Wakanda'

Marvel head Kevin Feige says that the upcoming second Black Panther movie will 'further the mythology and inspiration' of Wakanda.

Marvel chief Kevin Feige has revealed that the upcoming Black Panther sequel will "further explore" the world of Wakanda.

The studio is going ahead with the new movie despite the death of its lead star Chadwick Boseman last August due to colon cancer.

Feige has previously promised fans that Boseman's role will not be recast and has now also ruled out the actor appearing in CGI form as the franchise instead shifts focus to other characters living in Wakanda.

"So much of the comics and that first movie is the world of Wakanda," Feige told Deadline. "Wakanda is a place to further explore with characters and different subcultures.

"This was always and initially the primary focus of the next story.

"We're not going to have a [CGI] Chadwick and we're not recasting T'Challa.

"Ryan Coogler is working very hard right now on the script with all the respect and love and genius that he has, which gives us great solace, so it was always about furthering the mythology and the inspiration of Wakanda.

"There's also the task of honouring and respecting the ongoing learnings and teachings from Chad as well."

Black Panther 2 is due to begin filming this Summer ahead of a planned release in July 2022.
