New Netflix chief reaffirms commitment to UK spend

Netflix's new head of global TV Bela Bajaria reaffirms the streaming service's commitment to TV production in the UK.

Netflix's new head of global TV Bela Bajaria has confirmed that the streamer will continue to invest heavily in the UK in the years to come.

Some of the service's flagship shows are UK-originated, including The Crown and Sex Education, while Netflix also carries Channel 4's The Great British Bake Off in territories such as the US.

The company is thought to spend around £400 million a year on UK productions and in an interview with Deadline, Bajaria revealed that she expects to maintain that level for the foreseeable future.

"We don't break it out publicly by US vs outside, but I don't see our investment in the UK changing in the near term," she told the publication.

"The UK is one of the best places in the world for film and TV production and I'm proud Netflix is a growing part of that ecosystem."

The Crown's fourth season will premiere on Netflix worldwide on Sunday, November 15.
