Interview: GB gold medallist Lois Toulson

Sports Mole speaks to GB diving gold medallist Lois Toulson about her victory at the European Games.

Fifteen-year-old diver Lois Toulson made history tonight, becoming Great Britain's first ever gold medallist in diving at the European Games.

The podium-topping performance, which included a session-best 84.8 for her back 2-1/2 somersault 1-1/2 twist, caps a whirlwind season for the teenager after she beat her senior teammates to the British title in February.

Shortly after she received her gold medal, Sports Mole caught up for a quick chat with Toulson to find out how she was feeling.

Congratulations Lois! Is it heavy?

"Yes! It's the heaviest one I've got!"

If you can put it into words, how do you feel right now?

"Amazing. I wasn't expecting it so I'm over the moon!"

So you didn't expect to medal today - what did you think would happen?

"After the prelim, I had the highest score from the required dives, so I thought maybe I could push for a medal, but I didn't think it would be gold. So it's a bit surprising."

You won the British title a few months ago. How does this compare?

"These are all juniors, so they're all my age. It's nice to be able to know that back in England, I can dive really well against the top seniors there as well, but also the juniors in Europe."

That final dive earned you the title at the British Championships and now here too. It's becoming a bit of a signature!

"Yeah, it's definitely my favourite, that's why I leave it until last. I still get nervous though!"
