England's Chris Mears has admitted that narrowly missing out on a Commonwealth Games medal earlier this week inspired him to gold-medal glory in today's synchronised 3m springboard final.
The 21-year-old finished in fourth place in the men's 1m springboard, but he bounced back to produce a fantastic performance along with teammate Jack Laugher to win gold at the Royal Commonwealth Pool.
"That was awesome," Mears told reporters. "I was absolutely gutted with the 1m. I was so close to that bronze medal it put pressure on today. It's great to come out and deliver today as well as we have."
Laugher has now won three medals at Glasgow 2014 following previous success in the men's 1m springboard and 3m springboard events.
