Phil Taylor has eased into the third round of the PDC World Championship with a comfortable win over Jerry Hendriks of the Netherlands.

The Power dropped the opening set, but responded by winning 12 consecutive legs to seal his place in the last 16 at Alexandra Palace.

Taylor will now face Robert Thornton, who came from 2-1 down to beat Paul Nicholson in a dramatic sudden-death leg earlier in the evening.

Despite hitting 19 180s in his match against plucky qualifier John Bowles, fourth seed Gary Anderson came very close to suffering a shock exit.

Bowles missed three match darts at double 20, before eventually losing 4-3 in the final game of the afternoon session.

A tough test against either Raymond van Barneveld or Brendan Dolan is next up for the Flying Scotsman.

Terry Jenkins will meet Andy Hamilton in the last 16 after the pair recorded 4-1 wins over John Part and Richie Burnett respectively.

Dave Chisnall overcame Daryl Gurney by the same scoreline to set up a third round tie against Simon Whitlock or Colin Osborne.
