Gary Anderson edges out Phil Taylor in Exeter

Phil Taylor suffers his fourth Premier League defeat in five games after losing 7-5 to Gary Anderson in Exeter.

Gary Anderson has moved into the playoff places in the Premier League after he recorded a 7-5 triumph over Phil Taylor in Exeter.

Taylor appeared on course for a draw, but two missed darts at double 14 in the deciding leg allowed his Scottish opponent to return to take out 97 for the win.

Adrian Lewis won the final three legs of his encounter with Michael van Gerwen to earn a 6-6 draw, while Dave Chisnall capitalised on a missed match-dart from Raymond van Barneveld to record the same scoreline.

A bout of tonsillitis left Wes Newton unable to compete on Thursday evening, resulting in Robert Thornton playing twice against Peter Wright and Simon Whitlock respectively.

The Scot produced an 11-dart leg to earn a draw against league leader Wright, but he conceded the final four legs to lose 7-5 to Whitlock, who registered his first success of the campaign.
