Raymond van Barneveld hopeful of Michael van Gerwen upset

Raymond van Barneveld admits that he will have to take his opportunities to have a chance of defeating Michael van Gerwen in the Premier League in Aberdeen.

Raymond van Barneveld has admitted that he is expecting a high-level performance from Michael van Gerwen when the two meet in the Premier League in Aberdeen on Thursday night.

Van Gerwen, who has already won The Masters and UK Open this year, remains unbeaten in the tournament, and Van Barneveld, who won the Premier League last year, has acknowledged that he can't afford to miss chances against the world number one.

The 47-year-old told PDC.tv: "The last four or five times that I've played him, he's played unbelievable matches - I was leading 9-7 in The Masters last year and lost 10-9.

"He's simply unbelievable and fair play to him - he's a fantastic guy and a good kid and I can enjoy the way he's playing.

"Michael's in amazing form at the moment and hopefully I can have a good game against him. I showed last week that if you give me chances, I can take them."

Van Barneveld currently sits in seventh spot in the table, just one point adrift of the final playoff place.
