Michael van Gerwen wins German Darts Masters

World number one Michael van Gerwen withstands a fightback from John Henderson to win the German Darts Masters in Munich.

Michael van Gerwen has continued his remarkable form in 2015 with a 6-5 victory over John Henderson to win the German Darts Masters.

The world number one has lost just three matches since the start of the year, and the Dutchman had to be at his best to add another title to his collection in Munich.

After coming through close matches with Jamie Caven and William O'Connor, Van Gerwen averaged 113 in thrashing Peter Wright in the last four to set up a final with Henderson, who had ousted Adrian Lewis in the semi-finals.

It appeared as though Van Gerwen would race to a quick-fire win after taking the first three legs, but a 147 checkout from Henderson acted as the catalyst in a fightback to 3-3.

After the next four legs were shared the match went to a decider, but a 14-dart leg from Van Gerwen was enough to see off the Scot, who could only leave 161 after 12 darts.

Van Gerwen's triumph takes him past £1m in the PDC Order of Merit, over £400,000 ahead of nearest challenger Phil Taylor.
