Phil Taylor has suggested that he was able to take advantage of Michael van Gerwen's hectic schedule as he defeated the world number one in the Champions League of Darts final.
Just 24 hours after beating Van Gerwen in the group stages, Taylor registered an 11-5 win in Sunday's final in Cardiff and while he acknowledged that he played some of his best darts of 2016, he admitted that the Dutchman was not at his best.
The 56-year-old told BBC Sport: "I'm over the moon, just to get to the final. I was worried about the final with my energy levels. I was dropping down a bit, but I seemed to click at the right time."
I think Michael van Gerwen is brilliant. He's won everything there is but he's played too much and that showed during the final. He's played probably 12 days out of 14 and it's difficult."
The two players will now prepare for the World Grand Prix, which gets underway this weekend.
