England's James Richardson has sent Raymond van Barneveld crashing to a shock defeat in the first round of the World Darts Championships.
The world number 85 ran out a 3-0 winner in an enthralling encounter at Alexandra Palace.
The five-time world champion Van Barneveld had his moments, including a 180 with his first three darts and an 11-darter at the start of the third set. Richardson - in his first season in the PDC - also impressed and enjoyed two 145 checkouts on his way to a victory.
"I'm genuinely lost for words after what's happened," said Richardson.
"I'm a bricklayer who's just beaten the five-time world champion in the most important tournament in darts."
"Tonight has capped off what has been a fantastic 2011 for me."
Richardson will now face Kim Huybrechts of Belgium in the last 32.
