Gary Anderson has admitted that he was delighted to prove his doubters wrong by adding the 2015 Premier League title to his World Darts Championship crown.
The Flying Scotsman edged past Michael van Gerwen 11-7 in Thursday night's final at London's O2 Arena, having overcome Dave Chisnall in the final four earlier in the evening.
Not many fancied Anderson to prevail against world number one Van Gerwen, and the 44-year-old claims that he very nearly called time on his career in the past.
"I just play darts. I had about two years where I didn't want to play," he told Sky Sports News. "It's only the mentally weak that used to call me mentally weak.
"You should know now I don't give two flying fish and chips what people think about me. It's a horrible thing to say but I don't play darts for other people. I play for me."
Anderson can now claim the triple-crown by winning the World Matchplay in Blackpool later this year, having become just the second player after Phil Taylor to hold World and Premier League titles at the same time.
