Ed Clancy wins bronze in men's Omnium

Team GB's Ed Clancy wins bronze in the men's Omnium after winning the time trial event.

Team GB's Ed Clancy has claimed a bronze medal in the men's Omnium after winning the time trial event this afternoon.

Clancy began the omnium in perfect fashion, winning the flying lap ahead of New Zealand's Shane Archbold. However, his performance in the points race left him down in fifth overall.

Clancy had clawed himself back to second place after the individual pursuit before falling back down to fifth in the penultimate event, the scratch race.

However, a time trial time of 1.00.981, one and a half seconds faster than the next fastest competitor, was just enough to give Clancy bronze at the expense of Germany's Roger Kluge.

Lasse Norman Hansen of Denmark took gold with 27 points overall, three fewer than Clancy, while France's Bryan Coquard clinched silver.
