British Cycling technical director Shane Sutton does not expect Mark Cavendish to compete on the track at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.
The 29-year-old is in his final season with Belgian Etixx - Quick-Step team, but he is keen to continue his career on the road.
"I would say that Cav is a no," Sky Sports News quotes Sutton as saying. "We would have opened the door to Cav, of course.
"He was one of them born with the gift – technically, he can do anything. He has been a world champion on the track, the greatest road sprinter of all time.
"But unfortunately I think it's the end of the road for Cav. He has made his decision not to entertain it and that's fine. It's a shame."
Cavendish is a three-time world champion for Great Britain and also has a Commonwealth gold medal to his name.
