Team Sky confirm Bradley Wiggins's absence from Tour of Britain stage six

Team Sky confirm that Bradley Wiggins is unable to start stage six of the Tour of Britain due to a stomach bug.

Team Sky have confirmed that Bradley Wiggins was unable to begin stage six of the Tour of Britain due to illness.

The 32-year-old, who became the first British cyclist to win the Tour de France earlier in the summer, will play no part in today's race in Welshpool.

Team Sky announced the rider's absence via their Twitter page, which said: "Unfortunately Bradley Wiggins was unable to start stage six of the Tour of Britain today after picking up a stomach bug."

Wiggins, who won a gold medal at the London 2012 Olympics, is due to compete in the Road World Championships road race on September 23.

Meanwhile, Wiggins's Team Sky teammate Mark Cavendish has won two of the stages in the Tour of Great Britain so far.
