Team Sky's Mark Cavendish was forced to settle for second spot during stage two of the Tour of Britain this afternoon.
Cavendish's teammates Bradley Wiggins and Luke Rowe made a move for the front of the pack with around 1km of the race remaining in a bid to help guide the world champion over the line in first place.
Wiggins moved aside shortly after, leaving Cavendish on the wheel of stage-one winner Rowe.
However, just as Rowe edged wide to leave the path clear for Cavendish, the 27-year-old appeared to get boxed in with 600m left.
He managed to sprint through the field to eventually finish in the runners-up spot behind Australian Leigh Howard.
Meanwhile, Rowe's performance during the 180.7km race from Nottingham to Knowsley Safari Park saw him retain the overall lead.
