Chris Froome "unlikely" to compete at World Road Cycling Championships

Two-time Tour de France champion Chris Froome is "unlikely" to be fit for the World Road Cycling Championships after breaking his foot.

Two-time Tour de France champion Chris Froome is expected to sit out of the World Road Cycling Championships after breaking his foot during the Vuelta a Espana.

The Team Sky rider withdrew from the race last week after hitting a barrier in the Pyrenees.

According to BBC Sport, when asked if Froome will be fit for the Worlds, Team Sky principal Dave Brailsford said: "It looks unlikely. The fracture will take a while to heal."

The race gets underway on September 19 in Virginia, USA.
