The 23-year-old came out second best in heat six, as Morton progressed only to lose out to her compatriot Anna Meares.

Meares made light work of England's Victoria Williamson in her own heat, and racked up a Commonwealth Games record time of 33.435s to take gold.

Meares also set a new record of 32.836s in the women's 500m time trial at the UCI Mexico Track World Cup last year.
