Victoria Pendleton has admitted that she is glad that her cycling career is over following her silver medal in the women's sprint final at the Olympics.
The British rider thought that she had won the first race in the best-of-three encounter with Anna Meares but officials awarded it to the Australian after Pendleton was judged to have moved out of her lane.
Meares then claimed the next race to bring an end to Pendleton's glittering career.
"I'm a bit overwhelmed," the 31-year-old told BBC Sport. "I would have liked to have won my final race but I'm so glad it's all done and I can move on.
"I was sure that she touched me so it was a bit of a surprise. It knocked my confidence a bit."
Pendleton steps down from the sport with two Olympic gold medals, one silver, one Commonwealth Games gold and nine other world titles.
