Shaiman Anwar scores maiden ton to help United Arab Emirates recover

Shaiman Anwar helps United Arab Emirates recover from a slow start to set Ireland a target of 279 to pick up victory at The Gabba.

Shaiman Anwar became just the second ever United Arab Emirates batsman to hit a century to help his side to 278-9 against Ireland in this morning's Cricket World Cup clash in Brisbane.

The 35-year-old hit 106 off 82 balls, while Amjad Javed added a further 42 runs as the minnows recovered from a shaky start.

UAE found themselves on 131-6 at one stage, as the likes of Krishna Chandran, Rohan Mustafa and Swapnil Patil racked up just four runs between them.

That came after Amjad Ali (45) had also departed, and prolific batsman Khurram Khan could only add 36 to the dwindling tally as he was sent packing by George Dockrell.

Anwar and Javed starred to help UAE make some progress, however, setting Ireland a target of 279 to pick up victory at The Gabba.
