Surrey captain Gareth Batty has heaped praise on Kevin Pietersen following his unbeaten half-century against Glamorgan today.
Pietersen finished on 53 not out as Surrey declared on 207-4 before eventually going on to draw in Cardiff.
The 34-year-old, who is attempting to work his way back into the England fold with his return to county cricket, also ended two runs short of becoming the fastest batsman to score 1,000 runs in Surrey history.
He has another chance to break that record next time out, however, with Mark Ramprakash and Zander de Bruyn both reaching the landmark in 18 innings and Pietersen currently on 998 runs from 16 innings.
"I thought he played really well. He played like a true professional and the wonderful player he is," Batty is quoted as saying by PA.
"He has been magnificent. He has been trying to give everything, be it getting runs or in the field."
The match was Pietersen's first in the County Championship for almost two years.
