Sri Lanka crush West Indies in Twenty20 World Cup

Mahela Jayawardene's unbeaten 65 helps Sri Lanka record a nine-wicket victory over West Indies in the Twenty20 World Cup Super Eights.

Sri Lanka have destroyed the West Indies by nine wickets in their World Twenty20 Super Eights encounter in Pallekele.

The Windies ended on 129-5 from their 20 overs before Mahela Jayawardene hit an unbeaten 65 to help the Sri Lankans cruise to victory.

Batting first, the Windies laboured at the crease as Chris Gayle was dismissed by Nuwan Kulasekara for just two off nine balls.

Johnson Charles fared marginally better than his opening partner but was stumped by Kumar Sangakkara for 12.

Marlon Samuels (50) and Dwayne Bravo (40) did their best to get their team's run total up but they eventually fell victim to Jeevan Mendis and Angelo Mathews respectively.

Needing 130 to win, Jayawardene was complemented out in the middle by Tillakaratne Dilshan (13) and Sangakkara (40 not out) as the host nation romped to victory.

Jayawardene's knock saw him score a record-equalling sixth half century in ICC World Twenty20 history.
