South Africa recover after losing Stiaan van Zyl early against Bangladesh

South Africa recover after losing Stiaan van Zyl to reach lunch 104-1 against Bangladesh on day one of the first Test in Chittagong.

Dean Elgar and Faf du Plessis helped South Africa reach a score of 104-1 at lunch after losing Stiaan van Zyl early on day one of the first Test against Bangladesh in Chittagong.

The tourists, who won the toss and elected to bat, got off to a solid start as Elgar and Van Zyl surpassed a combined 50 runs inside 13 overs.

The breakthrough for Bangladesh came when Van Zyl (34) edged to Liton Das off the bowling of Mahmudullah, who overall conceded nine runs in three overs during the morning session.

Calling an end to the first-wicket stand swung the momentum Bangladesh's way, but Du Plessis was able to resume the Proteas' attack when he entered the fray.

Elgar and Du Plessis will return to the crease for the afternoon session unbeaten on 30 and 33 runs respectively.
