South Africa beat the West Indies by eight wickets in the third Test in Cape Town to win the series 2-0.

South Africa have beaten West Indies by eight wickets in the third and final Test in Cape Town to wrap up the series 2-0.

The Proteas began the morning on 9-1, needing just 115 runs to secure victory after West Indies were bowled out on day four for 215.

Faf du Plessis and Dean Elgar were at the crease for the hosts at the beginning of day five, but Du Plessis lost his wicket for 14 runs when he was bowled out by Sulieman Benn.

Hashim Amla then joined Elgar in the middle with South Africa still needing 73 runs for the win.

Elgar was given a reprieve when he was dropped whilst on 48, and the batsman went on to notch his half-century when he hooked a short delivery from Shannon Gabriel over the wicketkeeper for four.

Amla (36*) proved to be a good foil for Elgar (60*) at the other end, with the pair putting on a partnership of 73 to guide South Africa to their victory target of 124 after 37 overs.
