Surrey batsman Kevin Pietersen racked up his highest score of the domestic season as his team secured a three-wicket win over Somerset in the T20 Blast this evening.
The visitors started brightly, with Nick Compton reaching 20 and Peter Trego hitting 30 from 23 balls, but came apart in the ninth over when they posted 136-9.
Pietersen was the star of the show for Surrey, recovering well from a mid-order stutter to chalk up 39 from 28 balls, while Zafar Ansari struck the winning runs with five balls to spare.
The South African-born batsman and Tillakaratne Dilshan (29) put on 66 for the second wicket after Jason Roy fell to Dirk Nannes (2-28) for four, but both went on to fall in successive overs at the hands of Dilshan and Max Waller.
James Hildreth pulled off an impressive catch via Alfonso Thomas to eliminate Azhar Mahmood (13), but Absari kept a cool head on his shoulders to wrap up Surrey's seventh win of the campaign and move them up to second in the South Group table.
