Marcus Trescothick has equalled a Somerset batting record by scoring his 49th first-class century during day two of their County Championship match with Nottinghamshire this afternoon.

The former England opener reached the milestone in just 122 deliveries, equalling Harold Gimblett as the most prolific century-maker in the county's history.

It is also the first time in 17 previous matches at Trent Bridge for club and country that he has reached triple figures, and Trescothick was "delighted" to have ended the hoodoo.

"I'm delighted, the last couple of weeks have been fantastic. It's been brilliant to go past Sir Viv [Richards], close in on Harold's record and now equal it," he told reporters.

"More than that, it's my first hundred here at Trent Bridge. I've had some dark days here. Last year I bagged a pair, so it's nice to come back and get a hundred this time."

Trescothick ended the day on 117 not out, helping Somerset to 244-3, 157 runs behind the hosts.
