The Melbourne Stars return to winning ways at the Big Bash League against the Perth Scorcers.

Shane Warne's Melbourne Stars claimed their first win of this year's Big Bash League at the expense of Perth Scorchers this afternoon.

However, Warne was overshadowed in the bowling department by paceman Lasith Maligna.

The Sri Lankan recorded figures of 6-7 as the Scorchers were dismissed for just 69 runs from 15.2 overs.

Former Australian spinner Warner contributed one wicket for the cost of nine runs.

In reply the Stars were hampered by the rain, which eventually forced the match to be abandoned.

However, under the Duckworth Lewis ruling, their score of 29-0 from 2.1 overs was enough to take the victory.

Englishman Luke Wright was their top scorer, ending the innings unbeaten on 23.
