The Perth Scorchers have secured victory in a thrilling Big Bash encounter by beating Sydney Sixers in the Super over after drawing the clash on 153.
Scorchers took to the crease first with Craig Simmons and Simon Katich, but it was a poor start as the former was bowled out for a duck.
However, Katich took on the responsibility for the Scorchers by reaching 71 before falling to Josh Hazlewood after 56 balls.
Sam Whiteman and Adam Voges, who finished the innings unbeaten, managed to contribute with 54 and 19 respectively before reaching 20 overs on 153-5.
Steve Smith (65) starred for the Sixers during their chase, while Jordan Silk (23) also tried to up the run-rate until he was dismissed after 24 balls by Voges.
Chris Tremlett and Hazlewood provided a tense finish for the Sixers as they were able to tie with their opponents on the final delivery to force the match into a Super Over on 153-9.
Yasir Arafat was chosen to bowl for the Scorchers, with Smith, Moises Henriques and Nic Maddinson at three for the Super Over, which is the first in Big Bash League history.
Arafat managed to nab two wickets by dismissing Smith and Henriques in their over, resulting in the Scorchers needing just two runs to win the match.
Brett Lee stood up to take the first ball, but it was over instantly as Voges hit a four to claim victory.
