Ashley Giles will reportedly be announced as Lancashire's new coach in the coming days.
The former England left-armer is thought to be in pole position to fill the vacancy after Mike Watkinson stepped down from his position as cricket director yesterday.
According to PA, club captain Glen Chapple will only lead the team on the field after he was linked with a player-coach role.
If Giles, England's former limited-overs coach, does take over, he will attempt to return Lancashire to the top flight after they were relegated from Division One of the County Championship.
