National selector James Whitaker has insisted that Michael Carberry deserves the opportunity to prove himself again for England.
Carberry was included in the one-day international and Twenty20 squads to face Sri Lanka on Tuesday just a few weeks after his England career was in doubt due to his comments about previous coach Ashley Giles.
"Michael Carberry deserves his chance," Whitaker told Sky Sports News. "He was very close to a place in the Twenty20 squad for the World Cup. He has been a consistent performer for Hampshire in Twenty20 cricket and one-day cricket in the last few years.
"So he fully deserves his chance and we look forward to seeing him in the opportunities he is going to get."
The Hampshire batsman has not appeared for England since the final Test of the Ashes series in January.
