Sarfraz Ahmed struck his third Test century to move Pakistan onto 292-9 at lunch on day four of the second Test against New Zealand.
The late dismissal of Asad Shafiq in yesterday's evening session, which followed the scalp of Azhar Ali, saw Pakistan reach stumps on 281-6 in Dubai.
The Green Shirts then found themselves nine down and 91 runs behind in today's extended first session after losing three wickets in the first 10 overs to Tim Southee and Trent Boult, until Ahmed stepped up to frustrate the opposition side.
New Zealand were unable to break through, meaning that Sarfraz and Rahat Ali added 80 in 26 overs heading into lunch.
Pakistan currently lead the three-match series 1-0 following their 248-run victory in Abu Dhabi
