New Zealand reach 131-0 at the close of play on the second day of the first Test match against England.

New Zealand have reached 131-0 at stumps on the second day of the first Test match against England in Dunedin.

The hosts now trail by just 36 runs having bowled the tourists out for meagre 167 earlier in the day.

Peter Fulton (46) and Hamish Rutherford (77) have put down the foundations for a big total, despite the latter - making his debut - twice being let off the hook.

Stuart Broad could not get down quick enough after the 23-year-old smashed his delivery down the ground while he was on 52, although Kevin Pietersen's chance was by far the easier to take.

Rutherford was relieved to see Pietersen fumble after he had cut Broad's delivery his way at gully.

That summed up England's miserable day and they now have plenty of work to do in order to save the match.
