A century from Gautam Gambhir has helped India to a five-wicket win over Sri Lanka in Colombo in the third one-day international.

Sri Lanka batted first and made their way to a respectable total of 286-5, thanks to a couple of explosive innings.

Kumar Sangakkara compiled a trademark innings of 73 to top score for the hosts despite breaking a finger, an injury that has ruled him out of the final two games of this series.

Captain Mahela Jayawardene made 67 and was supported by Angelo Matthews (71) to set India 287 for a 2-1 series lead.

Gambhir looked in top form from the beginning of the innings and he managed to reach his century from 96 balls.

Lasith Malinga threatened to tear through India's lineup after removing Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Rohit Sharma in successive balls.

However, Suresh Raina blasted an unbeaten 65 and was joined by Irfan Pathan (34*), as the tourists confirmed the victory with two balls remaining in the match.
