MS Dhoni hits three off the final ball of the match to secure India a tie against Sri Lanka in the ODI at Adelaide.

MS Dhoni produced a match-saving innings as India and Sri Lanka played out a thrilling tie in the Triangular Series at Adelaide.

With four needed to win from the final delivery, the Indian captain chipped the ball over extra cover for three to secure his side a tie.

Sri Lanka had earlier posted a total of 236, with Dinesh Chandimal top-scoring with a well-paced 81.

Experienced pair Mahela Jayawardene (43) and Kumar Sangakarra (31) also made solid contributions but figures of 3-46 from Vinay Kumar, who dismissed Upal Tharanga with the second ball of the match, helped to restrict the Lions to a below-par score.

In the Indians' chase, Nuwan Kulasekera left Sachin Tendulkar still searching for his 100th international century when he had him caught behind for just 15.

Opener Gautam Gambhir was the mainstay of the Indian innings but wickets were falling regularly at the other end.

When Gambhir was run out nine short of his hundred the task fell to Dhoni to win his side the match.

While he failed to do that, the Indian skipper hit 58 from 69 balls to salvage his side a tie.
