Essex have confirmed the signing of New Zealand A seamer Matt Quinn on a three-year contract.
After missing out on promotion to Division One of the County Championship, Essex started their preparations for next season by appointing Chris Silverwood as their new head coach earlier this week.
Quinn becomes the first signing under Silverwood and he will not count as on overseas signing as he holds a UK passport.
"Matt is a tall, fast bowler who can swing the ball. We've made no secret of the fact we want to bolster the bowling attack," Silverwood told the club's website.
"Having looked at Matt play, alongside his record in New Zealand, he's got a good pedigree."
Quinn has taken 62 first-class wickets for Auckland at an average of 28.29.
