Ravi Bopara signs Essex extension

England all-rounder Ravi Bopara signs a new two-year contract with Essex.

Ravi Bopara has committed his future to Essex by signing a new two-year contract.

The England all-rounder, who made his 120th ODI appearance at the World Cup earlier this year, first appeared for Essex in 2002 and was the leading run-scorer for the team in the Royal London One-Day Cup this season.

He was also a key member of the four-day side that finished third in Division Two, and the 30-year-old is confident that new cricket committee chairman Ronnie Irani will help the team develop.

"I've played a lot under Ronnie, I know him very well, and I'm trusting him to get things the way we all want here at Essex," Bopara told the club's website.

"We're a team that should be competing and performing at a higher level than we are. I think we can achieve that with a couple of new signings and I'm confident that the club will get that right."

Bopara was Essex's leading wicket taker in the T20 Blast with 19 victims at an average of 16.11.
