England have beaten New Zealand by 40 runs in the first Twenty20 international in Auckland.

Stuart Broad's side scored 214 during their 20 overs as they took advantage of the short boundary at Eden Park.

Luke Wright and Eoin Morgan scored 42 and 46 respectively before Jonny Bairstow and Jos Buttler added some late firepower for the tourists with innings of 38 and 32.

New Zealand started well but despite Martin Guptill hitting 44, they were losing wickets at regular intervals.

Steven Finn and Broad were particularly impressive for England with figures of 3-39 and 4-24 respectively as the hosts could only manage a score of 174 off their 20 overs.
