The England and Wales Cricket Board have confirmed that James Whitaker will replace Geoff Miller as the chairman of selectors and national selector at the start of next year.
Former England and Leicestershire batsman Whitaker, 51, will begin the role on January 1.
Whitaker said in an official ECB statement: "I am honoured to have been invited to be national selector and greatly look forward to working with the newly appointed managing director of England Cricket, my fellow selectors - England team director Andy Flower and one-day coach Ashley Giles - as we seek to build on the recent success of England teams.
"Geoff's contribution cannot be overstated and I hope that I shall prove to be a worthy successor to a man who has brought stability, diligence and great judgement to our selection process in the last five years."
Miller has held his current position with the ECB since 2008.
