The West Indies have led a spirited fightback on day one of the second Test against England at Trent Bridge.
An unbeaten century from Marlon Samuels helped the tourists turn their first innings around after lunch to end on 304-6.
After winning the toss and choosing to bat, the Windies got off to a bad start when Adrian Barath was dismissed for a duck after he was caught by James Anderson off the bowling of Stuart Broad.
Kirk Edwards was the next to go as he was bowled by Anderson to leave the Windies on 26-2.
The tourists soon looked like they were in for a dismal first innings when Darren Bravo went for three off Anderson before Kieran Powell's respectable knock of 33 was ended by Broad as the visitors went in 84-4 at lunch.
Shivnarine Chanderpaul put in a typically belligerent performance at the crease as he attempted to halt England's progress, but he was bowled lbw by Graeme Swann for 46 after a review.
Tim Bresnan took his first wicket of the match as Denesh Ramdin went for one, but Samuels and Darren Sammy soon struck up a gallant partnership of 168 to give the Windies hope.
Samuels's 107 not out and Sammy's unbeaten 88 have helped keep the West Indies alive.
