England batsman Jonathan Trott has dismissed claims that Andrew Strauss is under pressure as England captain.

Despite England's recent Test success, including back-to-back Ashes wins and achieving world number one status, Strauss has struggled with the bat, not hitting a century since November 2010.

Trott, however, believes that it is normal for players to go through good spells and bad spells, likening Strauss's situation to that of Alastair Cook two years ago.

"Every player goes through ups and downs," said Trott.

"When someone is not scoring as many runs as they would like, or expect of themselves, it is always highlighted by you guys (the media).

"I'm sure it will have a similar effect as it did when Alastair Cook came through his little slump. I'm surprised you guys haven't learned your lesson from that."

England go into the second test against Sri Lanka on Tuesday needing a win to stay top of the world rankings, having lost the first test by 75 runs.
