Former England cricket captain Andrew Strauss has said that Kevin Pietersen can make a successful return to the side.

Pietersen was dropped from international duty in August after sending texts to South African players commenting on his England teammates, but has been recalled for the upcoming tour of India.

Strauss told BBC Sport: "Kevin sounds like he's contrite and he realises he's made some mistakes and now is the time for everyone to look forward.

"An England side with him in it that is harmonious and all working in the same direction is the best-case scenario and everyone needs to make sure that's what actually happens."

England will play four Tests against India, starting on November 15.
