Andrew Strauss admits that he would alter a couple of things that happened towards the end of his England captaincy if he had his time again.

Andrew Strauss has conceded that England failed to evolve towards the end of his captaincy.

The former opening batsman guided England to the top of the world Test rankings last year with a series whitewash over India.

However, they lost their grip on top spot to South Africa this summer, which in turn prompted Strauss to step down from his position.

Looking back on the events under his stewardship, Strauss has admitted that there are a couple of things that he would change if he were given a second chance.

"We struggled with knowing our next goal," he told The Guardian. "We never quite worked that out. If you say we want to stay number one for the next 12 months then by definition you're just trying to hold on.

"I now think that as soon as we beat India to become number one we should have made a conscious effort to refresh everything. But it's hard to do that when everything seems to be working so well."

The current England squad are preparing to tour India next month.
