Steven Finn ruled out for rest of England tour of South Africa

England seamer Steven Finn is ruled out for the remainder of the South Africa tour due to a side strain he sustained in the third Test.

England bowler Steven Finn has been ruled out for the remainder of the tour in South Africa due to a side strain.

Finn sustained the injury during the third Test in Johannesburg, which England won by seven wickets to move into an unassailable 2-0 lead with one Test left of the four-match series.

The 26-year-old was expected to miss the dead-rubber fourth Test at Centurion, which gets underway on Friday, but it has now been confirmed that he will also be absent for the one-day and Twenty20 matches, although he is expected to return in time for the T20 World Cup in March.

"Finn felt discomfort on day two of the third Test and scans revealed a left side strain," read a statement from the ECB.

"Finn, who had been selected in both the ODI and T20 squads, will stay in South Africa for a week to begin his rehab before returning to the UK at the end of the Test series. He is expected to be available for selection for the ICC World T20."

England are yet to announce a replacement for Finn in their Test squad, with Chris Woakes, Chris Jordan and Mark Footitt among the names in contention.

Liam Plunkett, who is currently with the England Lions in the United Arab Emirates, will replace Finn in the squads for the ODIs and T20 matches.
