England's Liam Plunkett seeks omission reasoning

Liam Plunkett is keen to learn why he has been left out of the England Test squad for the upcoming tour of South Africa.

Liam Plunkett has revealed that he will hold talks with coach Trevor Bayliss to find out why he has been left out of the Test squad for England's tour of South Africa next month.

The Yorkshire bowler was expected to be named in the travelling party, but he was overlooked in favour of Chris Woakes, Chris Jordan and the uncapped Mark Footitt.

Speaking after he had taken three wickets in England's T20 victory over Pakistan on Friday, Plunkett conceded that he was "gutted" to have been left out for the trip to face the Proteas.

"I'm gutted I'm not going. I'll try and catch the coach later on and speak to him to see what I can do to get back among the Test squad," he said.

"I was obviously disappointed but you just have to move forward. In the middle of the one-dayers [against Pakistan], I was going to leave it and have a catch up with him to see what went on, see what I did wrong or what I need to improve."

Plunkett has made 13 Test appearances for England, from which he has taken 41 wickets at an average of 37.46.
