Steve James: Simon Jones is a perfect role model

Former Glamorgan batsman Steve James expects Simon Jones to be a perfect role model for the Welsh county.

Former Glamorgan batsman Steve James expects Simon Jones to have a big impact on his return to the Welsh county.

Jones signed a two-year contract with Glamorgan after Hampshire agreed to release him from his contract early.

The 32-year-old is expected to only play one-day cricket next season but James believes that the fast bowler will still have a big influence.

"I don't think Glamorgan have had too many players who have won the Ashes," said James. "Simon Jones is a Welshman, he started his career at Glamorgan and I think it's good he's coming back.

"I still think he's got a lot to offer as a player, I still think he can bowl and bowl quickly.

"But if you were an aspiring fast bowler in Wales I don't think you could have any better role model than Simon Jones."

Jones made his debut for Glamorgan as a 19-year-old and went on to play 18 Test matches for England.

Jones has also played for Worcestershire during a career that has been blighted by knee injuries.
