Joe Root praises "ruthless" England performance

Joe Root believes that England were rewarded for a "ruthless" display in the nine-wicket victory over the West Indies in the second Test in Grenada.

Joe Root has described England's performance as "ruthless" following the nine-wicket triumph over the West Indies in the second Test in Grenada.

The 24-year-old, whose big century in the first innings earned him the man of the match award, was quick to praise the approach of his teammates on a pitch which made life difficult for bowlers, and admits that the squad are already looking to the summer ahead of Test series against New Zealand and Australia.

"It feels a lot better having the win behind us. The way we've applied ourselves over the five days has been great, we've been ruthless and it gives is impetus for the summer," Root said at the post-match presentation.

"There's so many positives for us to take and we're all champing at the bit to get out there in Barbados.

"I remember the feeling of being left out and I never want to have that feeling again so whenever I get the chance I try to be greedy and aspire to get big scores."

England only need to avoid defeat in the third Test, which begins on Friday, to clinch a series win.
