Joe Root: 'We have to have an excellent day to force a victory'

England batsman Joe Root concedes that his side will need to have an excellent final day to force victory against the West Indies in the second Test in Grenada.

England batsman Joe Root has admitted that his side will need to battle hard on the final day to earn a victory over the West Indies in the second Test.

The 24-year-old scored an unbeaten 182 to hand the Three Lions a sizeable first-innings lead, but Denesh Ramdin's side fought back to keep themselves in the match thanks to a century from Kraigg Brathwaite.

Root has conceded that Alastair Cook's men will need to perform exceedingly well on day five to take the lead in the series.

"We'll chase anything, we just need enough time," Root told BBC Sport. "We have to have a really good session with the ball in the morning.

"West Indies need a lot of credit for the way they played tonight. They were under quite a bit of pressure with lead we had, but they have got themselves back in the game.

"We will have a scrap on our hands if we want to get a result."

Root's century was the sixth of his Test match career.
